Shower Plumbing

Most of us do not want to deal with the problems associated with shower plumbing. As much as we enjoy taking showers, we cringe at the site of leaky faucets, clogged shower heads, and poor drainage and call the plumber to do all the work. Doing the job ourselves instead of the plumber is surprisingly easy. We may even be able to set aside some money for that special vacation, a new electronic gadget or credit card payments.

Knowing a few simple plumbing facts might be helpful in doing those shower plumbing projects. Some projects may need the right tools, but some jobs only require some resourcefulness and can be done relatively easy. With a little determination and ability and with some simple steps, you are on your way to becoming your very own plumber. Below are shower plumbing tips for those common shower plumbing problems.

Clogged shower drain

The shower clog is one problem most experienced in the bathroom. This is most often caused by strands of hair or other debris that got trapped in the drain cap. This is the first thing we need to check with the shower plumbing. You might also want to check the inside part of the drain where hair and other debris may have accumulated. You first need to remove the cap and check if the clog indeed appears inside. You may use a wire or a hook long enough to pull the clog out of the drain

If the steps suggested above do not clear the shower plumbing problem, you may try a plunger to see if you can loosen the debris that could be farther down the drain pipe. Plunge the drain a few times then run the water to check if the clog has loosened and water runs freely down the drain. If this step still does not work, try some Drano and follow the manufacturer’s direction. You should be able to clear the clog if this is nothing more serious than a clogged drain. Call for help if this still do not work.

Installing the Shower and Shower Plumbing

You may install your own shower and shower plumbing without the help of a plumber. For this project, you should first pick out the shower you like and purchase the plumbing materials needed. The shower fixture packaging usually comes with an installation guide. You should follow the instruction manual methodically in installing the shower and plumbing.

Turn off your water supply when installing the pipes. After installing the pipes, check for leaks along the length of the pipes and the links. You might want them totally dry so that it will be easy to check for leaks. Seal off the wall if you are sure there are no leaks, otherwise, you will be having problems later. Some put a shower caddy or a mirror over the opening instead of sealing the opening for easy access in emergencies. After the showerhead and all the plumbing are installed, you may do your fist run of water. Turn on the shower plumbing and see how the water runs. As long as you follow directions, it won’t be that hard to install and fix problems with shower plumbing.
